I was handed down a smaller coin collection from my uncle who was a vietnam vet after he passed away last summer. Theres some old chinese or asian coins that were in the collection along with 2 weird looking pieces. I have not been able to find out anything about them on the internet, and i was hoping someone on here could help me. Heres a couple pics.
It's a charm from the Sinosphere. As Vietnam had been a vassal of the Chinese Empire(s), much of the folk practices has assimilated in. These Taoists charms are usually shaped as cash coins, as money was seen as auspicious (who would say no to some?).
Based on the writings this charm is for a long life and prosperity
Used as talismans, and I'm not sure what they're worth. There is a big market for talisman collecting in China though. A simple coin can fetch about 400RMB (about 60USD). I suspect that if yours is authentic, it could fetch quite a lot.
As a translation to octobre52...he says that your piece is a fantasy piece created in South Vietnam for tourists or American Soldiers, made in 1965, 1974,1975...He walked past a shop with one in.
