I'm not an expert in any kind of coins, but I reckon I'm good at research and will do my best to help. Feel free to tell me my identifications/valuations/gradings are wrong. It's the only way I'll learn.
The first question I have is why would you even bother buying this coin? It is in such a poor condition that it has almost no numismatic value. A typical collector would only even consider this coin if:
1) It is a rare coin and hence he wants a filler for his collection since it is missing and it would be too expensive to buy. In this particular case, he would have already known what that coin is and hence identification would not be necessary.
2) It is not a rare coin and hence he just wants a filler for his collection while he searches for a better specimen. Again, he would know what the coin is and hence identification would not be necessary/
Is there another purpose this coin serves besides these two cases for you? Remember, it is not the quantity but the quality of your collection. I, personally, would rather purchase one stellar coin for the same cost as a few crappy coins.
As for the identification for this coin, give me a few days and I'll look it up in Gomes' Moedas Portuguesas...
i also think it is very bad, that's why i asked for help here.
So, thank you Quant.Geek, i'll follow your advice and i'll not buy the coin. I just wanted to know if it worth's the value the man is asking.
