I have a 1965 Sixpence with some damage/error on the reverse on the wing. I was going to swap this coin because it's a double and I thought this was just some strange damage.
I searched for error coins and one listed is a "Broken Wing". Does anyone know if this is that error? If so is this a common error? I think this coin is AU/MS.
If it wan't AU/MS, I'd probably just put it down to wear, but nothing else on the coin is worn.
What does it look like in-hand? Is the missing detail raised or lowered compared to the undamaged coins?
(Basically, does it look like extra metal, or less metal?)
There might have been a bit of a "ding" in the blank? So when stamped, it didn't fill the die?
Although saying that, the Queen's cheek looks a little odd, or it might be the lighting.
The wing "damage" is directly opposite the cheek isn't it?
(Not sure where I'm going here, just trying to rule out any post mint damage)

I'm not an expert in any kind of coins, but I reckon I'm good at research and will do my best to help. Feel free to tell me my identifications/valuations/gradings are wrong. It's the only way I'll learn.
Thanks for the reply Bizzo. Looking at it it seems like the detail on the wing has been filled in by an extra glob of metal. Here is what a normal example looks like.
Compared to my other coins the cheek doesn't look abnormal to me.
There's some amazing looking die breaks on this site.

With a broken die would you expect the area to be so smooth? It's strange because it almost looks like the left of the wing has extra metal and the right has less. Perhaps the same amount of net metal, but re-positioned. Could some fluid be trapped in the die? oil?
