You know the drill by now....purchases, gifts, finds, etc. Any new coins you've added to your collection this month. If you'd like to share the purchase price then please do. Like Redsmithstudios, I also enjoy seeing what others are paying for coins

I should be getting plenty of new coins this month, because my birthday is at the end of the month. Usually I send out a wantlist to my family to stop the usual gifts of socks and underwear turning up. But here is one that I've bought myself, a nice early Vatican coin, bought for NZ$7.50 (around US$4.50)

I recently got some more Conder tokens, and some silver coins, and others. Pictures from sellers ...

'Austria 20 Kreuzer 1825'

'4 x coins from Austria 1816 to 1893'

Some have arrived, and some on the way.

Neil, would you be willing to add a line in the "rules"?

It might read as follows
"If you don't mind sharing the purchase price please include that"

I like to see what others pay for coins in different parts of the world, its very interesting, for instance you got that Tuvalu coin with a turtle for like $5, but here is would sell for $25! Also it informs me of what I should expect to pay, I consider myself a novice and this would be helpful to me. Thanks!

PS If you get anymore of those Octopus ones please save one for me.

PSS Zac, that's a wonderful blacksmith token, how much can you ship one like that to me for?
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
Zac, nice coins all around, I hope you didn't pay silver BV for that US V :~

I noticed that the other day when they arrived, that the 3 US coins in the 15 were not silver. But I like them as they are old so will keep them anyway. I paid less than £9 for the 15 silver coins, so I think a bargain. They were listed as ...

1914 1/4 rupie German East Africa
1868 5 cent USA
1928 Shilling (1/-) Ireland
192? South Africa Florin (2/-)
1945 1/4 rupee India
1911 5 Cents USA
1863 1 fr Belgium
1886 10 cents Belgium
18 ? 1 fr France
1920 1/2d Jamaica
1911 5 Kopek Russia
1918 Dime USA
1944 South Africa 3d
1921 Australia 3d
1910 Australia 3d

When they arrived I saw the South Africa florin was actually the rare 1925 year.

Postage UK to USA is £2.25 and I always think of you when any blacksmith-type coins/tokens come my way. So in any future bulk lots if any duplicates turn up I will let you know first. I also notice that Wilkinson is mis-spelled Wilkenson on there.

P.S. Coincidentally I am already Watching a blacksmith token that ends tomorrow afternoon ...

with already the intention of letting you know if I win it (I already have one somewhere I think) - and I see that although with a different reverse, it is correctly spelled Wilkinson.
EDIT: I got outbid, and it sold for £4.60

My firs coins for October are these 6 beautiful notgeld pieces. They actualy look better in real than in the picture :) I paid $13.44 with shipping.
I'll certainly keep you in mind if I find any more Tuvalu coins Red. ;)
Thanks for thinking of me guys! Zac, the US dime is silver.

Picked up another one of these follis as I just love the design:

Byzantine Empire: Æ Anonymous Class I Follis, Attributed to Nicephorus III (Sear-1889)

As some of you might know, I also collect manuscripts. So, here is a lovely Persian Koran Leaf, dated about AH 1224/1809-10 AD to complement my 1612 King James Bible Leaf:

So, I've had a 1918 8 doubles coin from Guernsey in my possession for many years, one of the coins my grandfather gave to me when I was around 15. Just came across it again as I've been putting all my coins into 2x2's, and it's fair to say I fell in love with it again. Very simple, very pretty design. Onto ebay to find more from the series!

Received these 8 coins today from the same Portuguese seller:

By coincidence, 2 more from the series showed up on a Danish auction site recently (never seen any before on there), so I bought those as well - they're on their way.

Also received today - half crowns 1920, 22 and 27 bought in a Facebook group:

God I love when coins come in the mail :)
Just received new coins, including new countries
  • Byzantine Empire: Constantinople follis from Justinian I
  • Cameroon: 1 franc 1926
  • Canadian Provinces: Half-penny Montreal token (unregistered variety/coin, under ID in French forum)
  • France: 20 centimes 1867BB from Napoleon III
  • France - Kingdom: Liard de France 1657B from Louis XIV
  • French Equatorial Africa: 1 franc 1943 & 1948
  • French Guiana: 2 sous 1782A from Louis XVI (and received another minting year ordered by another member to be swapped)
  • Liege: Liard 1746
  • Luxembourg: 5 centimes 1855A
  • Togo: 50 centimes 1924

Thanks to a great swap with a fellow member I was able to add this coin plus its big brother the 1000 Reis:

in the last few days I have received 15kg of world coins and 5kg of British coins.

Far too many to list but a few are....

1826 Penny
1853 Penny
1854 Penny

Found a nice rare 1953E 10 Pfennig easily in EF Grade
1921 4 Annas
1788K 1 soldo in nice condition.

and a whole load more! I love going through huge lots, I enjoy the thrill of the hunt more than buying coins individually.

I don't really add them to a swap list, I normally just sell them on or my swap list would be massive and I may not have the coin asked for.x.

No coins as yet this month (waiting on a couple of Jersey £5 coins), but the following 2 coin Maps arrived today in perfect condition:

Was going to only collect 1 coin of each (regardless of mint), but will now be tempted to collect both mints for each quarter. Waiting on my Presidential Dollars Map to arrive from the US.

4 more notgeld coins.
A fresh pack came in with Polish and Romanian coins, mostly from 1950's or before. Will post some later. Burnt through my budget so will keep a lower profile for the remainder of the year I am afraid.

Is that a London Mint office issue ? It looks like the portrait they use
Fourmack, as always beautiful coins especially the 1858 penny :8D

This week I received a nice swap 40+ coins from an excellent Polish collector and friend (doc_man).

All of them nice coins, but one of the lot became an instant favorite for me. And to be honest I haven't felt this way before for any Canadian coin :O

-DMK-  Just a collector with hoarding tendencies.
Mark240590, yes it is the London Mint issue.
I had the mintage wrong, it should say 2000.
Not the sort of issue I would normally buy but the price said "you're coming home with me"
I deny nothing but doubt everything, opinions are made to be changed, how else is the truth to be gotten at.
Two new additions today, bringing my country count to an even 30. Marked at $35.75 Cost: $25.00

1966 "South Africa" - 1 Rand
1899 A "French Indo-China" - 10 Centimes
There was a coin show in my town today. I couldn't spend more than 2 hours there because I had to go to a meeting. Also I purposely brought only $65 in cash with me because I already spent enough money on coins this month (things to arrive yet). I think I did just fine. Most of the things will be additions to my collection but some will be my doubles. Also I won a raffle ;) I got 50 states quarter program album
With unc coins inside.

Siilver
everything else excluding doubles
Here are 2 more from the same lot --still debating wether to keep them or not

Netherland East Indies 1942p with a very nice woodtone colouring

They are up on eBay now split up into 2 kilo lots.

Lot 1
Lot 2
Lot 3
Lot 4
Lot 5
Lot 6

Most of these will be of standard value as I remove the high value High grade only coins from these lots.

I have purchased today another 8kg which I will receive on Wednesday.

The country list can be quite extensive with variety one lot and mundane common countries the next, but as a whole these are the countries I tend to see more often.

Canada
Austria
France
Spain
Belgium
UK
India (British-India)
Sweden
Switzerland
Iran
Iraq
Russia
Egypt
Turkey
Italy
Norway
East Africa (British)
West Africa (British)
Australia
Portugal
Denmark
British Isles
Netherlands

There are others like Rhodesia, Sudan but they are less frequent.

Years are normally between 1820ish to late 1980's, its almost a 50/50 split of old and new.

Coins I received today are a EF 1851 Belgium 5 centime

Not been much available recently so this was the best I could grab.

Another Bowling Alley find.....

I bowl with a gentleman named Tom (@ 84 years young) every Sunday morning and he asked me to "take a look" at his box of coins. Some 10 hours later, I had a decent spreadsheet of what he had and the approximate value. Saw him last evening and he "chuckled" at me for all the work and said, "but I gave them to you". I was a little taken aback, as there was about $200 dollars worth of silver in the box!! Anyway, they are mine now and here are the highlights............

I found 4 on here, and will use what lettering I can make out to search for the other 4, and add them here, when they arrive next week (to see lettering better when they are in hand). :)

Thank you - I recently started three new collection areas; crown-sized coins, UK Conder tokens, and French jetons. I love them all equally.

Thanks - I bought it (from a French seller) as a better example of this from three years ago ...

and I do know a small amount of German and French, but I just copied the titles from items that I bought; the seller of those five items is in Germany. 8)

I think this is all from me for this month. 3 2euro coins arrived today. 2 2015 Italian and 1 from San Marino

Here's my new ones not to every ones taste but they're expensive pieces. The rupee was more than my dollar from earlier this week but that's life !
Java 1 Doit Tin. British administration.

1814 rupee of British administration too.
This arrived today - 1.3 kilos of 19th century coins. I don't have that many older coins like these, so it's going to be an absolute joy to sort through and identify these :-)

Getting free coins is the best!

I got to talking to an old guy that likes going to auctions, he said he was not selling any of his coins. I told him l would swap US silver coins for his foreign coins, and he just gave me this bag! I even told him I would give him some silver dimes and that the 4 british coins are silver. He said this bag came with a $5 box of other stuff he sold for $45, so he gave it to me. Also a nice 1936 British farthing and some Tunisian coins l dont have any of so those are new to my collection!

Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
Goon, that lot looks pretty good, how much did you pay?

Just before the month of October started I was at:

1358 Coins: 177 types, 28 countries

Today I'm at:

1654 Coins: 360 types, 54 countries

All for under $20.00 cdn. In fact, Canada Post lost some coins from Morocco that I purchased on eBay:(.

Good month!!

It ended up at 210 DKK, which is about $31 or £20. I've been going through them this evening, and I'd estimate that at least 90% of it is coins I didn't have before. Even if the quality isn't great, I'm pretty satisfied.
My last registrations as from October were files I created and finally published in the last days for Gaul coins. I can list potins from Leuci and Turones, and a bronze coin by Mediomatrici.
