Surely this must be a replica?

This must be a replica, but it looks like a good one? Complete with offset stamp on reverse and mangled edges. Any idea what it is pretending to be? Metal is non-magnetic and diameter is approx 19.5 mm. I'm afraid I don't yet have accurate scales or a thickness guage (I have to wait until Christmas!) Any comments would be gratefully received.

You don't have to wait unitl Christmas. A good automotive repair shop must have a caliper. Ask there to get the thickness.

Or get these:

They are so cheap, that you should buy to learn using them and wait for Santa to bring a very good one (Mitutoyo, please...) in December
Well,

It's an Elizabethan, from what it looks like, 6 pence. And it appears to be a replicated coin...

A quick trip to a reputable dealer or jeweller should be able to establish the material. If it's NOT silver then you know it's a replica. If it is silver, then it still may be a replica.

B. where did you get from??? :o

I can't for the life of me remember where it came from originally, I just rediscovered it recently at the bottom of a tin with some odd coins

I don't believe it...I bought a Mitutoyo tool for £1 at a Boot Fair. I didn't know they were that well known and I had not heard of them until now!
I paid £50...
Can you help me read mine? I think I get it...but just need some help.

Please can you PM me.
Post a picture of a measurement.
This feels like a sitcom.

Is the coin real?
Did Ben get his readings?
Will I ever stop asking questions?

None of these questions and less on will be answered tonight's episode of The Most Boring Show in the World!

I can't even remember whether I could read my Mitutoyo tool. I don't use it much, but I use a vernier caliper instead.
Hi Rick, found this website that you may find useful.

I am not a specialist in hammered British coins, but the piece looks cast even on this small picture.
Since the first post is a year and a half old, the topic starter probably has already thrown it away, but if not, could we see a picture in bigger resolution?

Thought I recognized it from somewhere:

They're identical, and thus replicas.

Nice recall!
Thanks for the thread resurrection and the further feedback. It looks like the evidence from manxcat12 is fairly convincing but I won't throw it away, I still think it's an interesting thing to look at (I'm certainly not likely to own the genuine article!)
