What do you think? VF? XF?

A very nice VF. I see a little to many spots and minor scratches (particularly around the edge) to give it an XF. VF+ if you like.

Just like Victorian and Edwardian English ones, coins of the early years of the Scandinavian Monetary Union are probably hard to get in this quality, as they were heading for a fairly long period of circulation.
I have trouble with this kind of design, too - common to a lot of Scandinavian coins. I think I have a decent handle on grading coins with people on the obverse, but these relatively flat and less detailed coins are a bit of a puzzle to me. Especially older ones that have a lot of tarnish or grime making it look generally "worn".
Thanks, I got it for a decent price and I'm happy with VF.
XF, look at the details in the crown!

I'd go with EF too. Is that a plugged hole at one o' clock between the R and E?
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

I would say VF, only because of the lions paws on the flagpole look a little worn. The rest of the coin really does look more EF than VF. If the paws are just light reflections and not actual wear, then I go for EF.

I don't know this "XF" you mention, I only know of F/VF/EF... :P

No, there's no issues with the coin, but it has some unfortunate tone spots.

As for the wear, remember that this coin is magnified by quite a bit, the original coin is only 15mm, so any wear doesn't really show as much when you're looking at the coin in your hand. I think I'll settle on VF+, better to grade it on the low if you're not sure.
