Well, just because a coin is made of silver doesn't necesarily mean it is genuine. There are plenty of e.g. Chinese fake coins dollar size made of silver, also Albania 5 Franc 1927 plenty of fakes made of silver, and the list is long for many other coins. To me it is fake, let's see what other people think about it. And it would be nice to have some obverse images as well.

I understand what u want to say but, in india nobudy has such time to make such perfect dye and and talent to make such a finishing of a rare old coin, nobody even knows about this, and i found this coin in punjab state, i am sure it is genuine because mostly of punjabi peoples (sardarji) working and residing in usa and caneda. And frequently traveled to india. Thats why im sure
Now I am even more convinced that is a fake. If you are looking to buy it do not buy it. If you have already bought it, I hope you didn't pay more than 5$ for it.

I'm not an expert in any kind of coins, but I reckon I'm good at research and will do my best to help. Feel free to tell me my identifications/valuations/gradings are wrong. It's the only way I'll learn.
Цитата: "pnightingale"I really hate it when I find a $5,000 coin at the side of the road and it turns out to be a fake. Ruins my whole day.
Real coins don't wear like you gem. It's absolutely, 100% fake.

i found this near roadside
The reason that you found it on the roadside is because the previous owner who bought it on Ali Baba found out that it was a fake, got angry and threw it out of the window :)

Цитата: "sujit_kumar"Hi Hari,
It's 100% fake, a cheap Chinese replica. If you can take it to a jeweler I am sure he will confirm that it's not even silver.
aapka hi intezar tha sujit bhai, check previous msgs, silver pure, weight 99.9% correct size in mm 100% correct,
We don't have to argue about the authenticity of this metal round, it's 100% fake. In addition to the story of how you got the coin that screams FAKE to the heavens, the details are wrong and the crudeness of the portrait and eagle wouldn't even fool a blind person.
Also the problem with the right diameter and weight in numismatics is that most of the time there is no thickness given so you could make a coin out of a whole range of materials and still have the right diameter and weight.

I think the links provided by Bizzodoes should suffice. I really wish it was genuine, it would be a great story to tell your grandchildren but unfortunately it just wasn't to be.
Still, who knows what the future may hold eh? Keep strong, keep the faith and keep searching. Turning up a real rarity is something every numismatists should strive for.
Good luck.
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.

Are you freaking kidding me??? India is one of the worst countries for counterfeit production. I have come across so many fake silver rupee coins it's not funny.
