Australian silver coin are beautiful but coin grades on eBay seem to be exaggerated [решено]

Good Morning,
I have a coupe of the 1922 Australian sixpences for which the grading is more-than-usually critical to value. What criteria should I use? For example "Is Advance Australia" clear? "No distinct pearls in band." I show both my examples at 600 dpi. In my ignorance I would grade one at GOOD and the other at FINE. I would greatly welcome advice that would help me deal with other threepennies and sixpennies. Michael

I would probably grade both of these as VG. The rims are still strong, so better than G, but I think I would want to see more detail on the medals and whatnot on his coat for F.
I use the brim of the crown on the obverse as the guide for Australian coins, and other coins with that portrait of George V, as that wears the fastest.
  • If the brim is crisp and all the diamonds are clear then if's XF
  • If the brim is distinct and you can make out the diamonds but you can see signs of wear then it's VF
  • If you can see most of the detail but the brim of the crown is starting to merge with the hair and forehead in places then it's F
  • If the brim of the crown has merged with the hair and forehead and the diamonds completely gone then it's VG
  • If the brim has completely disappeared and the ear has gone then it's G

Using that I would probably put both of those as VG-F
Wonderful. That is exactly the sort of guidance I needed. Thank you so much
Michael
