Cob... Peru or Spain? [решено]

Hi all,

Acquired a 1/2 Real cob, but need to be educated. Supposed to be from 1566-1577 because of the 'o' over the 'D' and the six-pointed Star to the right. Should it be referred to, as a Spanish or Peruvian coin? Does it have a specific KM# in Krause's Standard Catalog of World Coins? Is it actually a '1/2' real, weighs approx 0.7g?
Any info you feel I should know would be appreciated.

I understand grading coins of this age is a bit different than with modern coins. Any opinions on grade and/or retail market values also welcome.
Hey, you have got a coin of Diego de la Torre, your near namesake. It's 1/2 real of Felipe II, Lima (1579-1588, the only period with a 6-point star as mintmark of Lima). Your coin is under weight.

You can buy other like yours next month, lot 85 in this auction:

There are 7 coins of Diego de la Torre in this auction. I guess it has never been so many coins of him in one auction.

zegeri.. Thank you for info. It was because of name I acquired the cob. They are kind of pricey for me.
Family History on my Dad's side goes back to 1500's in Spain. He was from Tenerife. Isles de Canarios.

Is the cob referred to as a Peruvian or Spanish coin?

What would this cob have weighed when first struck, currently what is standard recorded average, and is this one within acceptable trade variances?

The coin is Peruvian in Numista standards. The weight of 1 real is 3.4 g., 1/2 real 1.7g, 1/4 real 0.8g.

I remember 1/2 reales in XVI-XVII centuries between 0.9 and 1.8 g. Your coin, with that weight clipping the legends, likely was used as 1/4 real.

Is the value of a fractional Real Officially stamped on cobs anywhere, or was value determined at time of use solely by weight? Was it commonplace for a cob originally struck as a 1/2 Real to be 'clipped' in order to create a coin with the value of a 1/4th Real? And finally, is there a way I can determine if this cob started out as a 1/2 Real and later altered to represent the value of a 1/4th cob... were they originally struck with different diameters?

I know I ask a lot of questions. Your indulgence is appreciated... Dan
I don't know. You can only guess what happened with your coin. Every old coin has its own story. You can use imagination, a low value coin in the last batch minted in many years in Peru, shortage of coins, no copper coins exist...

Thank you for all your input. I think I'll submit my inquiry under a new topic. I'm quite curious.
