If mint condition this would've been very valuable, is this coin worthless now?

Hi all,

I came across this coin in by chance, one of the many parks/greens, in Buenos Aires.
It appears to be an 1883 Argentine 1 Peso coin, with a Numista Rarity Index of 70!
However it is in terrible condition, and someone appears to have had the great idea of turning it into a keyring.
Is there any worth to this coin now? or should i just use it as a nice little souvenir keyring from my travels?

Thanks,

Hm to me it looks more like some cast souvenir or cheap fake that got turned into a key chain (quite many differences to the real coin).
So no value lost more like value added because you bought it (at least for the previous owner).

Also the Numista rarity index is quite useless outside of this web site so please don't use it as a sole indicator on rarity.
Well, its definitely value added (for me) because I found it lying on the floor half buried XD, but I suppose thats good news that a nice coin hasn't been ruined.

The thing is, I felt it was genuine as it is quite heavy and soft metal. I thought it could've been .900 silver but heavily tarnished. Hopefully its not something like lead which wouldn't be best to be handling too often haha.

[edit] yeah I imagined the numista index fairly pointless anywhere else, I collect in a rather lax way and mostly use it as a personal reference in my collection
I don't know why but I had the word 'garage sale' in my mind while writing my second sentence. (8

If you want to know the metal you could make a specific gravity test. It won't be 100% correct but at least an approximation.
