Looking for information on this Goethe medal

4 сообщений
Hey guys,

I got this one from my dad some time ago. Since I'm not interested in medals or tokens I forgot about it for a while.

I did some research and there seems to be the original (obviously) made of copper and also ('official'?!) facsimiles.
Unfortunately I couldn't find any proper details about either of them (especially weight or how to distinguish one from the other). Can somebody help me with that? Maybe even a link in the Numista database?

Thanks
Chris
Below are 2 links I found for this medal on auction sites. The first link does list the weight, etc. The second link have some details in German.

Here is a translation from the info in the second link: POËT AND WRITER, GOETHE, JOHANN WOLFGANG VON. *1749, +1832. Bronze medal 1826 by Loos/F.König commemmorating his 75th anniversary. Two muses holding
laurel wreath over the dressed like Apollo poët. 42 mm. A little later strike from the Loos medal facility. (later than 1832) Plain edge (restrike). Catalogue: Förschner 254.

Plain edge restrike suggest to me that original strike has a different edge this may be a single mark or reeded edge. Hopefully this is helpful for you.
Thanks for you quick input guys!
Since most shop-offers I found only mentioned the weight (differing between 37 and 39 g) , the "plain edge" information is helpful .

Researching one of your links a little more I found this offer: https://www.ma-shops.de/kleyer/item.php5?id=1154

Seems like there may be more than one re-strike: one made of copper and one made of bronze. My link mentioned above also indicates 1975.
Guess this needs somebody who really is into medals in order to get an offer and find out more.
