Switzerland: 5 franken 1967b, edge lettering????

Hi,

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces194.html

it's not even true:x How can you put a clock, when you don't even specify if you see the coin with the portrait up or down????:O

I have a 1967b coin n front of me. In this case I don't care about any Pos A or B!!!
Portrait up, text starts at 20:00!
Portrait down, text starts at 23:00!

Please have a solid look at that. Anyway it's questionable if Pos A &B is realy worth keeping and on top of it to try to see wher the edge text starts and ends, it sounds like many, many, many possibilities, right?

Hello,
Sorry I missed this post. The descriptions/explanations in the Numista catalog could definitely be improved for this coin.

The edge lettering is made up of three pieces and separated by vertical lines at the 2, 6 and 10 o'clock positions when viewed from the obverse (portrait) side. Changes in the arrangement of the pieces have lead to the variations.

The typical order for 1931-1969 is:
From 2 to 6 o'clock: 13 Stars
From 6 to 10: 3 Stars DOMINUS
From 10 to 2: PROVIDEBIT

For a better graphic representation, check the pictures on this site:
http://www.schweizer-geld.ch/varietieserrors-5-francs/en/49-1/CH-ABM-5.00-1850.2

According to the catalog prices, the variations are worth looking for and keeping. But honestly I haven't checked the ones I own.
Hi,

I've been through all the franc coins in my collection and have found the following, see presentations. I still wonder how the minting machine works? A hydraulic press from above for the obverse and reverse and then a nano second later 3 lateral pressing the edge? How can the coins otherwise be so relative regular?

Let me hear your opinions?

Great pictures showing the edge! Are they in a silver bowl? Please share your method.

The minting is done in one strike. The collar holding the blank creates the edge lettering and needs to separate so that the coin can be removed.

I haven't had time to look at all your findings but it seems that what was "normal" for the silver issues doesn't apply to the modern copper-nickel coins.
Hi,
the edge photos are made as follows, yesterday I didn't really care about the light, hence the dark on the right side:

It's all about physics, isn't it:P
