The coin has a catalog value of at least $100 in VF, so I want to make sure I get the valuation correct. (Alas, the right-hand star has worn and I can't tell whether it is 85 or 86, which would have added an additional $25 in book value.)
(I bought this in a small non-itemized lot for significantly less than $100, so perhaps they don't actually fetch anything near the catalog price.)
I'd say F, somewhere between F and VF at most. I'd still stick to my initial grade because the coat of arms is very worn and the inscription on it is gone.
Those tiny dates in the stars were the worst numismatic idea until the advent of the RCM and Liberia abominations.
I wish it was VF as it would be a really great find for you but I'd have to agree with the above gents in saying it's a F with a possible + for the nice crown. It's value is going to take an even bigger hit because of the unpleasant wear on the portrait and the lack of a date making it unattractive to "by year" collectors.
You can sometimes make out the date by either rotating it very slowly under stronger than normal magnification to catch the light at different angles or with a USB microscope.
It's still a worthy coin though, those mixed coin lots are a whole lot of fun eh?
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.
