A friend brought this coin to me last night and it is the only coin he has and it was given to him many years ago and he has no idea of what it is. This is where you guys come in.
Can you identify the coin from the information and photographs.
Weight 3.39grms
Diameter 18.5 (although not completely round)
The coin is coin rotation
He would like to know:-
Country
Who is the man on the obverse
Face value
Date
Possible value
Interestingly, the wrong spelling of VIISPAsianvs (i.e. II instead of E) is found in Latin inscriptions because it replicates the cursive shape of "e" from "ε" (originally) to "( (" (more carelessly).
He would like to know:-
Country: original coin Rome; this copy unknown
Who is the man on the obverse: Emperor Vespasian 69-79 AD
Face value: Denarius
Date: Original 73AD; this copy 20th century
Possible value: Original sold for $200 in 2005; this copy is worthless
Цитата: "Camerinvs"Interestingly, the wrong spelling of VIISPAsianvs (i.e. II instead of E) is found in Latin inscriptions because it replicates the cursive shape of "e" from "ε" (originally) to "( (" (more carelessly).
Are you saying that this might be an authentic coin with a misspelling?

With the new pictures, it's clear that the E is normal, though far from being perfectly shaped.
From the pictures, too, I'm not sure at all it's a copy. I would lean towards it being authentic. Perhaps the detail that bothers me most is the emperor's chin, but of course dies were far from being all of the same craftsmanship.
The weight and diameter seem just about right, too.
Perhaps I had not tell my friend the details of this coin until it is agreed as to its authenticity.
Hope you can agree between you, so my friend can have his coin back. Not seeing him until Monday, so anyone else out there want to add any comments
As shown in the pictures below, I believe this coin to be a fake for several reasons:
1) Lettering is wrong style and it runs into the beaded boarder.
2) There is a seam (typical of fake ancients).
3) There is verdigris and copper spots, which shouldn't be possible on a silver coin.
