Spanish Civil War Cardboard Provisional Currency. Would appreciate identification.

Hi All,

I know of the "standard" provisional cardboard currency with the Spanish Coat of Arms on the side opposite the stamp. However I have obtained a few with the normal stamps but which have a different "obverse".

These are similar to the standard type but seem to be issued by different Provinces. They all have the line drawing of an antique car in the centre with the words "Carton Moneda De Uso Provisional" and the Province "Alamarchar Malagar 1937" (also Benamargosa, Alozaina, etc).

I would appreciate any information that you can give me on this type of provisional currency - or as to whether it is a fake.

I would say that they are, at best, private issues. Also could be just fantasies aimed at swindling collectors out of their money.
Take a look at this publication on Spanish stamp-money. There are a number of governmental decrees on replacing silver coins with paper money, including stamp-money. Only national and provincial coat of arms are mentioned as obverses.

They are known modern fantasies. The only Spanish cardboard money is what you can find in that catalog.
