Was this British penny lot a steal of a deal?

I was trying to figure out values for some British Pennies I have in similar condition to the two I have in this lot.

I was seeing that most 1894 pennies like the one I have go for about $2 but....

I was looking on ebay and found this sold listing 140 coins for $36 + $7 = $43 total, seems like a steal? what do y'all think?

43$ /140 = 30 cents each coin.
Depending on the state of coins behind, the deal might be good

.30 cent each? I thought they were worth a lot more than that?

​Scrap value. Probably less than 30¢ each.

I don't think the ebay purchase was a particularly good deal as they are more than likely to be common dates in low grade. There is a possibility of an overlooked rarity, of course.

Well that's a surprise to me, I would have expected more value even for the samples that redsmithstudios posted.

I'd have loved to have one for 30c.

​You can have all mines - I am downsizing my collection and have available 36x 1 penny (1896-1966) and 35x 1/2 pennies (1887-1967), all different years. Older pieces (before 1950) are in my swap list, for the rest I can send you the scan. Take them all and it will cost you the same US $0.3 a piece...

Ooooh I wish. That would be amazing but tragically not in the budget right now.
