I have two Portuguese 1€ coins, one from 2015 and another from 2003. I would like to know if it is normal for exactly the same coin to look so much differently? Older one has much stronger lines. Look to the photos.

You are correct. There is difference in the relief in this new issues from 2015 on. I don´t know exactly when it started, as - though is my country - I find it very difficult to read the year in the Portuguese (mostly Euro cents) coins :P
Nowadays is a more plain relief, instead of the old relief, much more appealing.
Anyway, I don´t have any indication - neither the national catalogs - refering it as a new variant of the coin.
