The US mint experimented with aluminum coins as early as the 1850s. At that time, aluminum was exotic and valuable. This all-denomination 1868 pattern proof set in aluminum would look really nice in a frame on my desk! http://news.coinupdate.com/experimental-aluminum-pattern-proof-set-1806/
I remember reading about 1883 Madagascar Trial Pieces struck by the Paris mint in the name of Queen Ranavalona III of the Malagasy Kingdom, in aluminium.

The article is on pp. 189─203. It's primarily about "exonumia", but it is quite detailed and says much about the early history of aluminium.
Plus 3 more from the next several years: 1922 3 Mark, 1923 200 Mark, and 1923 500 Mark
The earliest circulation aluminium coins are probably the 1907-08 ones from British West Africa, followed by the 1910 Greenland (Thule-Kap York) issue, and the Philippines 1913 leprosarium issue. The only pre-1900 pure aluminium coins I can find any mention of (though, to be honest, I haven't looked very hard) are:
1793 Bermuda penny (km8a) - proof restrike
1888 Columbia 5 Centavos - pattern
1891 British India, proof restrikes in several denominations

Thanks, I thought I had an early one. I will hold on to it.
I’ve got a spare 2 Aluminium British West Africa 1/10 pennies just looked at my collection I already have one and I collect by type. So both available. 1907 & 1908 both have some oxidation. But upon investigation it’s not uncommon and actually protects the surface rather than eating it away.

considering Aluminum was only discovered in 1825 I am surprised to see they struck some in 1850, that 1868 set is very nice! So sad the government melted one set. So stupid!
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!
