Mintage for the 1910 2 anna coin of British India.

Looking at the webpage for all the Edward V11 2 anna coins I see that there are listing for both the Calcutta mint (at about 1.6million) and the Bombay mint (at about 1.7million).

While I'm aware of the Dot on vine variety, this is the only time I have seen mintage figures listed for the Bombay mint.

I am very curious as to the source of this information. Can anyone tell me?

Looked through KM, Paul Stevens’ & Fred Pridmore’s books and could not find any mintage numbers for Bombay mint. That number may have been entered in error.... and I probably made the mistake in submission. Unless anyone has other info, the mintage number for 1910 Bombay mint (dot on vine) needs to be removed

Thanks for this response, which sort of confirms what I has suspected since I also had searched out other sources and found no confirmation of this figure. In discussion many years ago with Randy Weir of Stevens and Weir, he alerted me to the Dot on vine Bombay version of this coin. Since then I alerted him of the dot on vine appearing on a limited number of 1910 1/4 Rupees as well as on the 2 anna coin. However neither of us had ever been able to find any Bombay mint data to determine a mintage figure re the 1910 mintages.
It seems quite clear to me that the Bombay mint was gearing up for production of these coins and that the number minted were rather small - especially of the 1/4 rupee.
What IS known is that both denominations were minted in Bombay for the 1911 date - though now with the George V portrait.

Aaah... now I remember where I got the mintage number from... please take a look at this article By Haresh Assumal

Joseph, thanks for this. It is definitely very interesting. I find that the last graph of the article where the 1910B mintage is shown as a small percentage cf the 1910C mintage "feels" more correct than the figures of 1.6 and 1.7m from each mint.
I've run across the problems of "fiscal year"and calendar year before... many researchers have bemoaned a variety of issues, such as using weights rather than mintage numbers and the fact that mint records cross years.

I suppose the only clear observable point is that the 1910B is vastly more scarce than the 1910C 2 anna. Do you agree?
AN observation also is that the dot on vine 1910 coin is NOT as tough to find as the 1909 coin?
Also, I'd note that I have not had any difficulty in getting NGC to encapsulate my examples as 1910B "dot on vine" when I've asked.

carisbrooke I'm glad you brought this up. The mintage numbers are now updated for the 1910 2 annas.

1910 C mint coins are indeed much easier to find than the 1910 B, 2 annas. And they in turn are easier to find than the 1909. Still looking for one of either date myself
