Is this a real coin or a replica? https://www.ebay.com/itm/GUADELOUPE-1-FRANC-1903-VERY-RARE-STRUCK-IN-SILVER-MEDAL-ALIGNMENT-A69-9211/401462600335?hash=item5d7909228f:g:vKIAAOSwSzRZQ5pt
Looks real but completely overpriced.
I would not look at Ebay buy it now, look at auctions starting at 1€, 1USD...
I sold the exact same coin at an Auction house in AU to UNC condition and sold it for the exact same price.

very expensive.....
Non est totum quod splendet ut aurum
Rijkdom bestaat niet uit het hebben van veel bezittingen, maar in het hebben van weinig behoeften
But the basic one is copper-nickel. Is this actually rare?
I don't think his is silver.
The silver ones are scarse pattern coins that should not have circulated.
here the two coins I sold at auction: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=3502866

Okay, apuking may know more about these, but to my knowledge -

The 50 centimes pattern is silver.
The 1 franc pattern is NICKEL-SILVER, (it contains no elemental silver)

This coin is not a pattern. The 1f pattern has '19' on the reverse, but not '03' - Like this in the Numista page for it - https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces68546.html

Interestingly Kraus lists 2 essais, E3 and E4 in cu-ni, and silver, but I've never seen a silver pattern, only a nickel-silver one.
hi fellows,

I am afraid such a coin has been minted in copper nickel.
Some vendors call this metal "argentan" close to "argent" (silver in french). perhaps some kind of "misunderstanding" ?

Vieille Pile
VieilliePile is correct; this coin has only been minted in copper-nickel. There is a silver essai (listed as KM#E4) but that coin does not have '03' on the date, which the coin being sold on Ebay does. I think it is most likely the common copper-nickel 1F coin that has been mistaken for being silver.
Argentan (fr) argentone/alpacca (it) germany silver are the same way to define a composition of copper nichel and ZINC.....so many wrong info in the web i think.
