Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone can help me with determining which version of the "9" this cent has.
It seems like a double punch #1 or a bold "9" since the oval in the nine is narrow and smaller. I would like a second opinion on which version it may be.
My Charlton Catalogue states "1859 Varieties:The majority of the 1859 dies were not overdates: they were dated with a narrow 9 punch. Over 400 dies were made and numerous re-punch varieties exist."
My catalogue lists only 7 of the "repunch varieties" and the value rises with the different double punches, triple punch, and even an inverse 9. I feel your coin is far too worn to detect any of these varieties.
A Numista member in New Zealand (fourmack) has collected over 20 of these varieties, you might try him with a PM (always been most helpful).
Lastly, at a coin club meeting I held on to a 1859 Brass example. Even in G grade, this Cent is only surpassed in value by the 1936 Dot Cent.

Peter,
Thank you for your help. I sent him a PM.

I would like to help, but you need to take better photo's ---this is a rough coin so it may be very hard to check what variety it may be.
Always take your photo at 90% to the coin and both side's.
Check this site out as you may be able to check it yourself.
Look at your coin for die cracks or re punched letters etc https://www.vickycents.com/index.html
