Hello,
I will be traveling to Prague in less than a month and was wondering how is coin shopping there. Are the coins overpriced? Are there a lot of fakes being sold in coin shops? And what other places sell coins other than coin shops?

Hi colleague
I live on the opposite side of the Republic, but I can express myself.
The whole center of Prague is a paradise for numismatics. Here's the shop map:
Here's a link to individual deals and their offer:
Fake and Scams- Forget, they are the stores at the highest level, they will not risk the negative rating.
Here is an excellent rating and sell the coin and its prizes:
Find out all the outlets, their offer, and choose the one that suits you.
I wish you a lot of nice experiences. You will surely be satisfied and will choose. Important advice at the end:
-do not exchange money in exchange offices in the center, just in the bank
-get rid of a rogue taxi, choose via Uber
It is complex to say. Generally they are overpriced. On top of overpricing, they take longer routes or just charge more money for nothing (basically steal). Plus you will lose money on their exchange rate... (really, exchange your money only in bank)
And the taxis drivers - rude and arrogant. Not to mention that if you call them by phone, it might take forever before one comes to you, sometimes they even don't come at all.
Some last thoughts - if you visit famous sites, don't really buy food or drinks there. You would be overpaying by more than 100%. With terrible exchange rate.
And do not go to Václavské náměstí by night. It is terrible during day, but it can be survived, just go to the statue and museum (which is now closed for repairs I believe) and go away.
I always change money on the streets for better rates, check the place out in front of the main train station. I can recommend you going to the bars in the inner city after doing your purchases. Some random chicks will invite you there. Don't worry.
A little update. Was planning on going to a coin shop today but turns out it’s by appointment only on Mondays. I did go to a few more antique shops , I love them. Bought 2 german coins and a Austria Habsburg from a shop in a castle.

I haven’t been to an official coin shop yet. It was another one of those antique shops; that raises a question, are the coins in antique shops tend to be over priced?

In my opinion, yes, they are overpriced. And it is everywhere, becasue sellers in shops sell it for the highest possible value. That is my experience from SK, CZ, UK, HU.... So usually I buy coins in flea markets and expensive coins in online auctions, because when you are lucky you can buy it in auction for less price.
Unless they're numismatically inclined I would say that all flea market/antique shop coins are overpriced substantially... People don't like being told their lifetime collection is only worth a few euros at most.
I buy coins that I’m sure I won’t find them in the US any time soon. When I am back at the hotel, I compare eBay prices. So far I spent less than I would on eBay!

@LEONIDAS
Do you mean UK as in the UK or Ukraine?

Yes, ebay is special, there are highest prices. From all possibilities of buying coins are auctions the best for me.
the owner is very nice and took the time to show me his inventory of the coins that I was interested in. I picked coins for a rather large amount (in my opinion) and he was generous enough to give me a small discount.
question. Is it allowed to export coins (non czech coins) from Czech Republic?
Цитата: "Jarcek"I don't know about any export problems.
Ahoj
Yes, there is a law protecting historical items before export. The coins may not be over 50 years of age, so do not pretend to write a souvenir anywhere. It is routinely exported and it is also in almost all the advanced states not older than 30 years, somewhere in the 50's and not even at all.

Hello
I did not want to scare you.
The wallet is good, buy for 50 kč bigger. Large baggage is also a good check to detect only drugs and weapons.
The small luggage on the plane is more controlled, but when you put the coin in a napkin, the bag is OK too.
It is important not to have it in your pocket or on your neck. The experience is that it is tolerated as tourist objects and the customs officers are friendly and I have never seen a problem or dislike. More I would be afraid of in the US.
It will be OK

They don’t check baggage when arriving in the US. I think I’ll be fine. I will post some pics of them once I arrive home in 3 days.
Here are my acquisitions. Sorry for the bad pics. Prices are in Czech Koruna. I think I did well, considering the prices and the availability of those coins in the USA.

Yes, you bought good coins for good prices. I am even surprised that they are not overpriced....for Prague.
Цитата: "kommodore"Guys, there are coins markets/ flea markets in prague?
Hello and have a nice day for collectors.
As you imagine the markets, so it doesn't work in Prague.
There are small markets but I would avoid them-There is the greatest possibility of fraudsters.
There are plenty of coin shops in Prague, cheaply with expert help, certainly better than on the market.
Prague numismatics has a great tradition and prestige. I live at the other end of the states and when I have the opportunity to go shopping in Prague, and in the center 200 meters from Wenceslas Square is a little shop hidden, has cheap coins and a willing owner.

I see that they have online shop as well. Do they sell coins only within Czech Republic?
Ahoj.
I think you can arrange with the owner to sell abroad, has internet sales pages in English so it assumes.
I have good experience right from the store.
When sending abroad, count as+ 5$ -10 $ - to the price.
