Hello,
I have a gold coin or comemorative token.
one side has "Virginia Verasis Di Castiglione"
the other "Incipit Redemptio Italiae" MDCCCLIX
The diameter of the coin is 30mm.
Does anybody know the origine (history) of this coin and it's values ?
Thank you in advance and best regards.
Olivier

MDCCCLIX is 1859, shortly before the unification of Italy (1861); the Countess was a lover of Napoleon III of France, and exerted considerable influence over him to aid Italian unification (such as in the Second War of Italian Unification that year).

That's what it commemorates; as for how much it's worth, I assume however much someone will pay you for it, + gold value, but it doesn't look to be made of gold to me.
Thank you, thats true that for it's size it seems quite light to be gold.
It comes from my grand mother, and my mom says it's gold, I will have it checked at a shop.
I believe that is one of the ten commemorative medals engraved by Mistruzzi in 1959 in the Munich mint. The subjects were different personalities (two woman) lived by 100 years before.
Thank you, I thought it was written mistruzei, I couldn't read the seccond Z.
