I picked up a few scarcer European crowns today that I was missing, but I am not well versed on these series/countries/minting practices, so am getting your opinion on the grades!
Цитата: "Blazenko"Hello,
I would say 5 perpera is near UNC. how much did you pay for it if its not a secret?
i will not comment the rest of the coins.
Best regards, Blaž
Thanks! I wasn't sure if I should put it down as AU or Unc as there's not too many examples to compare with. Just a shame about the few obverse contact marks/bagmarks and toning spot on the obv as the reverse is a gem. Will pm you about the price.
Цитата: "CassTaylor"For both Liechtenstein 5 Francs; XF+. Their busts look pretty good but I know some people who'd say there are too many hairlines for AU.
For the Montenegrin 5 Perpera, I'm on team AU. Is it just me or do cropped coins automatically seem to incline a grader to be more generous?
For the Oldenburg Thaler, VF+; hairlines make me uncomfortable about going XF, but not out of the realm of possibility IMO.
It isn't just you at all.
Also the low contrast isn't helping, both of the image itself and with the white page background.

I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!

What? O.o 'Number of hairlines' only come into play above MS64, unless there are enough for it to be considered a details grade. US grading term, but also applies to European shops. Crystal clear fields are only really expected on gems.
This is an MS63 from Heritage:
The Thaler is easier than the others, and I don't think it makes XF. Too much loss of granularity on the hair.
@ Loruca, should have them in hand in a couple of days, so will get some of my own pics sorted then!

I look forwards to slobbering all over my screen!
The thaler is a touchy subject because the reverse is much nicer than the obverse AU/VF... Overall, i'd be hard pressed to give it a VF grade...

Scratches, then, if that's a more appropriate word for them. Some are just too big to be ignored if you ask me, certainly on the thaler. But maybe them being on the cheek of a bust, and viewed on closeup, makes them look worse than they are. I'm sure those can probably slide into most people's AU, if that's more palatable to hear.
Nice to see we're agreed on the thaler, though. It's honestly my favourite out of the four.
