Hello everyone,

I found this quite unique coin in my grandma's collection, which she got from her uncle. And since this appears to be the oldest coin I have, but I only knew very little about it because my grandma didn't know what it is I decided to look it up and so I became interested in coins in general and that's how I ended up here 8).

It appears to me that it's in very bad shape, because its color isn't silver (I assume it has a layer of silver oxide which has helped to preserve the details) but of course it has this giant hole on top of it, which probably kills its value.

Do you think it has any collectible value in this shape? Could you make an evaluation?
Thanks a lot!

Last line is yours; but you are right to assume the hole is vastly destructive to the coin's value. Maybe 10-15€ tops now?
Thanks a lot!
It's nothing. :)
You should try some silvertests.

I have some doubts if it is real, because the details look strange (face, lettering, shield....)
The edge is to good, it is to round, compared with other hammered coins like yours.
The strange color could be to much brass in the coin

If it is real, I agree with the value.

@Petrus
Good points, I thought it was yellowish lighting that caused the photos to be like that.
If the coin is really that colour, panic.
@Petrus Thanks a lot for the great article, i performed the magnetic and the ping test but i cant say if it passed or not because i dint own any N52 magnet and i dont have any simmilar composition coin to compare the sound. Id love to have it XRF analysed at some jewler shop in the future.

But i deffinately see your points and i have serious doubts myself now. Aside from the flaws you mentioned (the color deffinately looks closer to that in the picture than in other similar coins ive seen) i also noticed that there is a letter completely missing from the lettering. it says on the reverse AUS:D:B: instead of AUS:D:BU:, this has to proove its a fake right?
The missing letter doe not say it is fake.
These coins are hammered, and regularly the die had to be remade.
So for the same coin, multiple variations exist

CAROLus VI Dei Gratia Romanorum IMPerator Semper Augustus GErmaniae HIspaniarum HUngariae BOhemiae REX
Charles 6 By gods grace, ever lasting roman imperator, king of Germany, Spain, Hungary Bohemia

ARCHIDux AUStriae Dux B(U)rgundiae Marchio MORaviae Comes TYRolis
archduke of Austria, duke of Burguny margrave of Morovia, count of Tyrol
Variations exist

Very interesting, thanks!
