France 1942 1 Franc - essai? [решено]

4 сообщений
What does essai mean? I see it as a variation of the 1942 1 franc I am trying to enter (Thanks worldcoins96!), but I don't know what it means.

Thank you to all who offer an explaination.
This might be of some help? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essai_(coin)
Essai is French for "test", so in this case it means a trial strike of the "normal" coin. Those usually have a small word "ESSAI" somewhere on the coin. Highly unlikely yours is an essai, because of their limited production; but sometimes people do find essais amongst normal coins.

The words "Prueba" (Spanish), and "Prova" (Italian) also are used for this purpose.

Thank you, guys!
Not a test coin, but now I know I'm not overlooking some tiny detail. :-)
