There were a lot of fake British pound coins circulating, with the wrong pictures for the years and some times the wrong wording around the edge. Some are reasonable quality and some less so. The poor quality ones do not have the two sides aligned properly.
It was because of all the fake coins, that the Royal Mint created a new bi-metallic pound coin last year (2017)
