Hello,
Can anyone tell me what these are, exactly? They seem to be from the Maurya Empire, around 300-200BC but I can’t identify them. Are those common or could mine be fake?

(I shall add the diameter/weight info later!)

#1:

#2:

Twopence a week, and jam every other day!
the first looks like silverplated copper?

Such coins are not easy to find a correct id

Hmm...I looked up on Zeno but couldn’t find the exact thing. Maybe I can ask there?

Not sure about #1 (I’ll check later). Probably just the lighting?

I don’t even know if the punchmarks can be told apart...

additional info:
#1 weighs 2.52 grams, and the diameter is 22mm, thickness 1mm; #2 weighs 2.28 grams and the diameter is 20.5mm, thickness 0.5mm. Not sure if #1 is silver-plated or not...

Yes please, ask there
These punchmarks are made seperately on the metal. So finding the same marks together is possible, but to find them on the exact spot as on yours, is very doubtfull.
Nice coins

It's true it's quite difficult to match up punch-marked coins. There are some limited tables of punch marks available on the internet, but they're not very comprehensive.

I think both the coins are solid silver - the first one looks to me like it could be a short bent bar of the Magadha kingdom (pre-Mauryan, approx 6th-4th cent. BCE)

The second one may be a Maghada silver karshapanaof the 4th-5th century BCE.
If you look at the bottom coin on this page

http://coinindia.com/galleries-magadha.html

there is a similar horned animal atop arches, and the weight is similar. There's also a sun, though the other punch marks don't match.
I tried Zeno but apparently they're not looking for new members now...

Well, I didn't think of Magadha (I didn't know punchmarked karshapanas were used before Maurya, my bad) but these marks do look similar! I think that's very close.

Thank you! Such interesting pieces anyhow. I'll try to look a little more into those punchmarks...

No, indeed, a new account is still not possible.
But send a mail to Vladimir, he will help.

If that does not help, I can post the coins for you.
