Hello,
Can anyone tell me which king’s reign this silver drachm belonged to? I compared it to the coins of the Kshatrapa’s main rulers on Wikipedia (thought it might help) but couldn’t find a match. So...any idea?
If that doesn't help, then no one can help, unfortunately. As a general rule, you shouldn't buy coins that you are not familiar with. Need to do the research up front prior to committing...
I guess so. I bought it when I thought one could differentiate the rulers from their portraits. Totally wrong on that and yeah, that’d be a good lesson!
The good article on "How to read the legends on coins of the Western Kshatrapas" by Pankaj Tandon, referenced above by Quant-Geek, gave helpful guidance as to what part of the legend to look at for the name.
Had to walk through the coinindia gallery looking at each kshatrap to match the legend.
Also looked for a bust without a mustache and with a relatively flat helmet.
The second photo (reverse) should be rotated 180 degrees, so the arched hill in the center is upright.
