Discolored quarter with the letter D in dollar is wrong

I came across this quarter; I have never seen one copper color like this I also noticed the D in dollar is what looks like an error. Don't know much about this, would appreciate any help.

I believe it might just be dirty/had some liquid of some sort poured on it. As for the D, I think that is just damage done to the quarter, however your image is a bit out of focus.
