The cowrie shell, unless you are certain of its provenance, is almost impossible to date or locate I think... as Petrus said.
It could be 3,000 years old from China used as mean of payment, or 10 years old from Africa used in a necklace.
I see, could you conclude that it's an older Cowrie, due to the fact that it came from underground. Or is just prospecting on my part? Wishful thinking maybe.
County of Clare... in Ireland ?
I'm not sure the cowries have been used as a money in this part of the world but I must admit I'm not expert in shell money
You can find old shells underground as well : sediments, part of an old necklace, brought in the lands by a bird, etc....
Hello I am from India. I purchased this cowrie which appears to be filled with lead and weighs 10.5gm . Not sure if this genuine. Cowries were used as currency in India but could not find any reference of metal filled cowrie. Appreciate your views.

Rijkdom bestaat niet uit het hebben van veel bezittingen, maar in het hebben van weinig behoeften
This lead filled shells were used by jeweler in olden times to make a weight of 1 tola (old indian weight standard for silver /gold )approx 11.66 grams to be used as a weight measurement .
