It appears to my eye that the coin - 1980 D(Denver Colorado mint) 1 cent is of a silver color. The cents minted in Denver in 1980 were Brass. The composition was 95% Copper and 5% Zinc. This gives a coin with a bright reddish-yellow color (See image below). It seems likely that the coin may have been silver plated as a whimsy.
