Trying to figure out where this coin is from. Approx 25mm, made of brass or copper, has a crown on both sides, may be the letter "P" on one side, cut/hammered/worn badly? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Whitney
Looks like a Spanish cob coin to me. I see several counter-stamps on it. I see a stamp with 1652. Perhaps it's one of these: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces89680.html
Presedinte gave you good advice.

Yep, its from Spain, probably from King Felipe IV. As you can see, diameter and desing match (you can find similar details even with the stamps on it, which were used to increase valor, etc).

If Zegeri see this post, he will probably give you more info or even give a better id.

Thank you for pointing me in the correct direction. Looks like a Spanish 1652 8 Maravedis. Thanks Again!

I dont think it could be an 8 maravedis, its more likely to be 4 because of diameter you pointed out.

I am thinking 8 Maravedis because I see an "8" under the letter "P".
But I might be seeing what I want to see on these counterstamped coins.

Yes, i agree with you, its posible to see what seems an 8 but, as far as i know, thats the thing of the counterstamp; they were used to increase value, etc.

So i think base coin is 4 and its probably "upgraded" to 8 . Technically we are both right (;0

P.d.: little detail, that P is from king Philipus (Felipe)

The host coin is a 4 maravedis of Philip II or Philip III. The countermarks in this coin are:
  • a 1652 above a B from Burgos in the right photo with an 8 in the left photo to change the value of the coin to 8 maravedis
  • a crowned monogram in both sides with value, date and mint not visible, of 1658 or 1659 and value 4 maravedis.
