Found this 2p in a box of coins whilst on a world coin hunt. Didn't think much of it at first as I'm from England and come across them all the time, but when I picked it up I realised the reverse was completely blank and smooth. Is this a genuine Mint error? Anybody know what it's value would be if it is? Especially considering it's 1971 which is the first year they struck the 2p
Not sure if that’s rare or not but I was wondering, do you find any old coins coin roll hunting in England? From videos I’ve watched it’s just mainly different varieties.

I don't search through UK coins, just world coins. I buy them in boxes from ebay. In general circulation though I don't really get a lot of old English coinage though. Since most of what we use now came into circulation in the 60s-70s and they've changed a bit since then. I do kind of notice when I find a coin from the 80s or similar in circulation though.
Ok cool. I love searching through foreign coins too. In USA coin rolls we find old coins. I found a v nickel from 1909 once and a Indian head penny from the 1890’s. Good luck finding out about the coin.

Value is 2 Pence. Notice on the heads side there is a rim around the edge.
If it were a mint error that rim would also be on the reverse. So someone has
worn the reverse away deliberately.

Ah, okay. Well, nice to know, thanks. I did think it could be where two blank planchets got stacked one exactly on top of the other when put through the coin press. Only ending up with a print on one side
Yes - that is also a possibility. But more likely an engineering experiment, or similar. :)

I have similar on a 1938 Jamaica coin >
Again with a smooth (no edge) reverse.

What about checking weight.
If it is lighter than standard, it's been doctored.
I'm just a collector of coins, not a slave to it, unless I am in a coin shop.
For all you banknote collectors. Link to my swap list.

I did weigh it and it came out about what a 2p should weigh. But I think ZacUK is right. It makes more sense that it’s doctored, and it looks like the example he posted.
