17.9 mm 1.58gr
Hello
Dear experts, what do you think, this coin of the Genoese colony of Elisala is genuine? Coin is rare. On 2-3 sites I found such follaro, but weight and the size of the their much less (9mm).
Thanks in advance
Best regards
Yuri.
I don't know.
I am rather worried by this clearly delineated circular edge which reminds me of high quality eastern fakes using the modern strike on antique flan technique. Subsequently repatinated and causing this weird two-tone separation effect on the rim. The size of the cracks in the flan are also notable and could suggest a later strike, along with the depth of the design imprint, which seems to have move a significant amount of metal to the rim. Almost a surprising amount. For a forger, It's an easy design to fake and an excellent monetary payoff.
That said I have no concrete proof, and I've seen weirder than that from ground find coins here in Canada.
How much are you being asked for?
LRC
P.s. I also don't like the cross.
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
