I know that this is a colonial half real from 1805. But how can I tel wich country it was in use, and what about the countermark?
it's 16 mm and weighs 1,42 grams

Цитата: "Camerinvs"Unless you have the pedigree of where the coin was found, there is no way of knowing where it circulated. But even if you got it from a Canadian collector (for example) it wouldn't mean it circulated in Canada, though that would be possible. When foreign coins are found by metal detectorists, this provides a much better pedigree.thanks a lot. Interesting
Some countermarks can be identified, which then tells you where the coin circulated at some time or other. However, most countermarks can't be identified (see my thread on this), even when we have a full name. Yours is most probably a private countermark which cannot be traced back to anyone specific. It is most likely that it is just a punch that someone tested on this coin.
I personally collect Canadian countermarks on foreign coins, such as the DEVINS & BOLTON ─ MONTREAL countermark often punched on US large cents. In this case, you know that the coin found its way into Canada by the 1860s at the latest (when Devins & Bolton, pharmacists, punched over 100,000 coins).
