Hi, I have come into a complete collection of UNC state quarters in presentation boxes and capsules. I don't really collect the state quarters so I'm wondering what the complete sets usually sell for. Anyone have any idea?
It would be about 1.5x face because of the presentation boxes. But they might not sell easily because all can still be found in circulation in nice condition.
Than they are UNC (proofs are S) but I never saw them in boxes - in my experience, P and D used to came in dedicated envelopes sealed in cello (5 pieces P + 5 pieces D per set). As for price, I'd say 5 dollars per year (for both P and D), a bit more for the whole set.

well he said in capsules in boxes, so they are not government minted coin sets, sets put together by a private company

Yeah, a private company has put them into the airtite capsules and then put them into a presentation box. They gave up on the boxes after a few years though and then issued the rest just in the airtite capsules. I can put some pictures up tonight to give you an idea. The boxes aren't important though. I can always just remove the capsules and have the whole set in the capsules for consistency of presentation.
Personally and this is only my opinion ,I frown on people whom collected those state quarters as they all thought that they or their children and grandchildren would be wealthy some day .The problem that I have with them is that they made sooooo many that the supply is there but not the demand. On the plus side ,they are beautiful looking coins I also feel the same about the new cents that are being made by the boat load. With sooooo many how can they be rare or in real demand. Now Error coins that is a whole different ball game.Just my 2 cents worth because the United States never made a coin that says penny on it.Please don't all attack me at the same time as I said in the beginning "my opinion".I enjoy the hobby and even more helping the ones whom are just getting started.Stop by anytime and I'll leave the light on for you.
