Identification (Indian or Islamic?)

9 сообщений

Hi all, my first post so hope I'm doing this right.

Need help with the identification of this coin.
L: 22mm
W: 24mm
Weigh: 4.08g

Someone suggested this could potentially be from Delhi Sultan Bulban era, but never found anything matching from my research.

Thanks

Extremely helpful - thanks!
This is certainly a complicated and confusing coin, and I'm sorry to disagree but I don't see an Ujjain symbol or svastika. It looks like a double strike to me, one side with a 6-pointed star (or rather, portions of two six-sided stars). I would say this is probably Islamic rather than Indian, though must admit that in a Zeno search I didn't come up with a match. Hopefully an Islamic coin expert will be able to help.

Agree that this is likely a double-strike.

Reason why I was leaning more towards Hindu was that from my research the 6-pointed star with the dots is one the punch marks used on Indian coins.

From my research, I only found 1 Ujjain coin which included this symbol and it came along with other punch marks:

looks like ( at least very similar to) Libya fulus of Mahmud II ( 1223) with 6-pointed star, and classic reverse formula, but double struck.

Yes, I agree. This one looks very similar

Libya Ottoman, Barbary State para, KM 115, Mahmud II, AH 1223 fixed (1808-1835)

I believe that several kingdoms throughout history have made coins with six-pointed stars.
I was unaware that the Ujjains did this too, and stand corrected on that.
