How much was that coin sold for ?

When selling coins on E-Bay or any other platform or bidding for a coin, we often are astonished how much (or how little) the coin eventually was sold for.

Just to start with: Congo Free State 5 centimes 1908, Copper nickel, 19 mm diameter;
Circulated, VF (as stated by the seller)
Mintage 800.000 according to Numista and 180.000 (mistakenly) according to Krause

The on-line Krause quotes that coin $4, $8, $20 in F / VF /XF respectively.

Colonials are a niche market, so prices can be a little unpredictable... It was sold for $49.

I guess it also depends where you are. The only attempted sale on US ebay was $9.99 for a VF coin (I say attempted because there were no bids). Additionally, the coin grades closer to VG than VF.

A Belgian nickel 2 Francs, dated 1930 (much less common than the 1923) VF - mintage 1.252.000
Demonetized in Oct 1933 (whereas Francs and 50 Cts with the same design continued to be used.)

The on-line Krause lists a high value (but critically depending on the grade).

Bought for as little as €0.49. Often it's merely nobody else noticing ...

How can you tell the difference between 1908 and 1908/6 coin?

Thanks.
