Hello, I just received this piece and cant really find exactly the right one anywhere. It is a coronation medal or token from the coronation of Charles X of France. The seller sold it to me as silver so I guess the material as silver. Weight is: 12,91g - Diameter: 40mm. The medal is quite thin (around 1mm) but the portrait adds around 1,5mm to the max. thickness. It most likely has been polished by one of the pre-owners.
Thanks for any help you can offer to find the exact piece.
So you say this is no token, medal or jeton but just a piece of jewelry? Would you say it is contemporary? I noticed that the reverse is designed close to the official coronation medal but with a big mistake. On my piece it looks like all the people around Charles are Kings too, on the medal no one except him wears a crown. Also the legend on the obverse is a bit strange: Charles X Roi Franc B?
I am not sure about the use of this piece but the edge seems too round to be a medal or token. However, it may just be because the picture is blurry.
The reverse shows the "sacre à Reims", which is the crowning. I suppose the others around the kneeling king, receiving his crown from the representative on Earth of his god, are bishops. So, he is king "dei gratia" = "by the grace of God". The French kings are also often said to be "roi très chrétien" = "very Christian king".
