Hi again all, pretty sure this is Japanese but couldn't find it while searching the pretty much all of the Japanese coins. Anyone have any idea what this is...date, denomination, etc?

It's a red cross medal not a coin

Very interesting and thanks for providing that link. I never would have found that.

I guess my next thoguht is there's no way to really date it then since, per that webpage "Dated Meiji 21 [1888]. Note that this date is used for all Red Cross medals regardless of date of issue."

It does say that "medals made before 1941 are usually made of sterling silver. Aluminum is used for later medals." It weights out to approx 9.90 grams but I'm just not sure what the silver vs aluminum weights would be.
unless it is extreeeemly thick there is no way that with this weight it's aluminium (30 mm depeding on thickness 2-3 g, I'd guess for aluminium)
The date on the back of the medal, top row from right to left says Meiji 21 year.

Yeah it looks like according to the article posted above that "this date is used for all Red Cross medals regardless of date of issue."

So your guess is that it would probably be one of the pre-war sterling silver medals?
