Numismatists can buy a replica of Teshinsky taler
The Czech Mint in December 2014 issued a silver coin of the series “Tribute to the historical Czech Mint”.
The issue of this coin emphasizes the historical importance of the existence of the Mint in Tesin, the first written mention of which dates from 1290.
The city of Teszyn, located on the Olsha River, in the Middle Ages was the capital of the Teszyn principality (until the beginning of the 20th century it was one city, but in July 1920 it was decided to divide it: the left-bank part went to Czechoslovakia, and the right-bank part - to Poland, and became known Cieszyn).
The Tieszyn principality (or duchy) arose as one of the many medieval Silesian principalities, which were under the control of various branches of the Polish house of Piast.
At first, masons were minted at Teshin Mint - small bargaining chips. Over time, there began to produce larger coins. From 1574 to 1597 there was no minting at the mint. Its final closure took place in 1655. The Piast dynasty soon ceased to exist - its representatives ruled in the Silesian principalities until 1675.
The building of the mint itself has been preserved - it is located in the Polish Cieszyn.
The new commemorative coin, made at the Czech Mint, is a replica of Tesinsky taler. The portrait of Vaclav III Teszynski (1524-1579) is shown on the coin. Given Prince Tieschinsky, he was one of the most prominent representatives of the Silesian Piast line.
According to the press service of the Mint of the Czech Republic, the coin is made of silver of the 999th test with the quality of “antirculated”. Its mass is 31.1 g, diameter - 37 mm, circulation - 1000 pieces. Designer - Jan Lukáš.
On the obverse of a replica of the Teshinsky thaler, a portrait of the prince is minted, the sign of the Czech Mint is indicated to his left. On the edge of the coin are inscriptions - “D • G • DVX • TESSINEN • ET • M • G • WENCESLAVS”. A bead rim is located along the edge of the coin.
On the reverse of a silver coin in the center is the coat of arms of Piast. Along the edge is the motto of Wenceslas III Teshinsky - “BENEDICTIO DOMINI DIVITES FACIT” (“God's blessing enriches”).
It can be bought at the Czech Mint for 1,450 kroons (58 euros).
