5 nummi Justin II (Nicomedia mint) ? [решено]

Hello,

I would need some help to identify this little fella from a lot of Ancient Greek coins.

According to what I can read, I thought it could be a 5 nummi from Justin II but the weight (2.3 g) and the diameter (16 mm)do not correspond. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Bruno
You are correct. This is a Pentanummium of Justin II. It was struck at the Constantinople mint. To the right of the Є is a cross (the first four letters of the Greek alphabet were also used). The whole series recorded in the Dumbarton Oaks collection for the pentanummium of Justin II from the Constantinople mint show a wide range of sizes: 1.15-3.27g, 13-17mm. Your example is within those ranges.

The monogram stands for: ΙOVCΤΙΝ(gamma) ΚΑΙ CΟΦΙΑЄ (Dumbarton Oaks) or Ι(gamma)CΤΙΝ(gamma) ΚΑΙ CΟΦΙΑC (Bibliotheque Nationale) = Justin and Sophia.
The only other mint to use the cross by the Є was Antioch. The difference between the two mints for that coin is that Antioch use a pelleted border.

Thank you, Numisquare!
Have a wonderful weeekend.
