Fake North Borneo Cent?

Hello,

I just received this as part of a lot, and I can't find anything about it in the usual places. It seems like a counterfeit brass copy of this one:

Weight: 5.9 g (should be 9.25)
Diameter: 27.9 mm (should be 29.6)
Composition: looks like brass (should be bronze)

Any other suggestions as to what it could be?

Looks like a fake British North Borneo 1 Cent, Chris.

Thanks Aidan, that's my sense too. I just thought I'd ask because I can't find any reference out on the web to other example of the old Borneo coins being counterfeited.

Anyone else want to chime in before I close the thread?

There are definitely some fakes out there. I've seen my local coin shop selling some of these fakes for about a dollar each. The shop does sell some fake coins and even banknotes but they do put it in a tray labeled as "fakes". Usually the real ones cost at least 10 dollars. I have no idea where the fake ones come from though. Maybe I should ask the owner the next time I go there.
