French jeton and Roman coin - please help

Hey there,

I have this roman coin and I'm bashing my head through the wall with it. It's 2g and it seems to be carinus or carus by the looks of it, but it could be also some variation of Constantine I. It clearly reads (at least from what I can understand: IVS IVN NOB CAES but in front I cannot see the first part of the name clearly. It could be provintial ? or some pretender to the throne. Please help out with this.

Also a french jeton from 1851, observe is devastated, but reverse seems perfect. It's 2 g as well.

Both the jeton and the coin I cannot seem to find on numista.

I deeply appreciate your help in advance ! Cheers, Stef

Hi, I found the "French jeton". It's a prussian jeton from 1851, during the reign of Friedrich Wilhelm IV, featuring the Prussian eagle and the motto "rein und ohne Schuld", 'pure and without fault'

There is one sample in Nordjyllands Historiske Museum (Aalborg, Denmark), following this site: http://www.kulturarv.dk/fundogfortidsminder/Lokalitet/163442/Udskriv/

Good afternoon, SStefanov. The inscription I have noted on the Roman coin, and the lettering you have transcribed, look similar to:-

"Title: Licinius II Caesar (AD 317-324) Æ3 / Two Victories
Attribution: RIC VII 79 Siscia
Date: AD 319
Obverse: LICINIVS IVN NOB CAES (Licinius Junior Noble Caesar), laureate cuirassed bust of Licinius right
Reverse: VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP, two Victories placing shield inscribed VOT/PR on altar decorated with S; ÆSIS in exergue
Size: 19.44 mm
Weight: 3.07 grams
Description: VF."

Is the mintmark on yours AESIS or SIS? (Btw, Siscia is now Sisak in Croatia)

Re: " VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP translates as "Joyous (well-earned) victory to the eternal Prince" and VOT PR engraved on the shield is VOTA POPVLI ROMANI "vows of the Roman people"

Hope this helps.

Good afternoon,
The mintmark is ΓSIS● (3rd officina), or maybe ASIS● (1st one).
Neither ÆSIS nor AESIS exist on any coin; no more than SIS on this monetary type.
It is RIC # 70.

No S on this one.
Цитата: "ALEX LOCKWOOD"VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP translates as "Joyous victory to the eternal Prince"
Victories (plural), as meant by the -ae termination, and shown on the field ("Two Victories").
Цитата: "ALEX LOCKWOOD"VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP translates as "Joyous (well-earned) victory to the eternal Prince"
Why "well-earned" ?! That is an extrapolation.
