Numista calls one of the coins in my collection 'very rare', my question is how rare?
It's a 1929 deutsches reich 1 rentenpfennig.
Where can I go to find out more information about this coin and the reason for its rarity?
Thank you all for your help.
Those comments of "rare" or "very rare" are put by people who created the page of that coin. Usually it indicates that that year is rarer than others on that page. But very often it does not mean that it is rare in comparison to other coins.
As an example of coins that I have:
This coin from Finland 1936 is stated as "rare" with a mintage of 562,000. Yes, it is rarer than other coins, but not that rare with a price of around $10. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces7683.html
Or you can have this coin from Ukraine of 1994, with a mintage of only 300, but it does not say anything there. And it is very rare in comparison to any other coins. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces3303.html
So, it just depends. We won't be able to give you more details about your coin, because we don't know which coin you are talking about.
Would be nice if someone could put a comment in to help explain the difference between the coins, (spelling seems to be the difference) as a non-specialist on German coins.

There is are see also link for the Reichspfennig or respectively Rentenpfennig already and if you can't read I don't know if more text can help.
Im sorry if you feel we shouldn't be striving for excellence in the catalogue. The wiki link is very helpful. It's not a case of not reading. It's because the difference is so minute that it's easily missed, one user missing the difference is one too many.

We do strive for excellency, but we also believe in some kind of observance facilities by the members like compare correctly their coins against the possible findings!
Easy search: "germany 1 pfennig 1929" and then use the thing between the ears and determine what you have between your hands
