Hi folks! Being new to here and to coin collecting, I haven't come across much that is especially rare. I think the pictures below are of a Canadian mule, but I'm concerned that my optimism is overriding my knowledge! Would anyone be able to tell me if doing the happy-dance is premature? Many thanks!
Цитата: "Camerinvs"Two questions:
1 ─ Is it magnetic or non-magnetic?
2 ─ Why do you think it's the mule?
It is non-magnetic. I thought it was a mule because I misread what did and did not have mintmarks. Thank you very much for helping to set me straight. I will learn to pay more attention! :D

It's very easy to get confused with all these varieties, and when you think about it, the first to get confused were ... the Mint employees who had to switch dies on the machines when they were starting the production of a new run.
I see that the Numista page is very incomplete. Looking at it you would think no 2010 cents were produced for circulation. Also, some years with the RCM logo have magnetic vs. non-magnetic varieties but they are missing. These are not mules or mistakes; they were produced this way intentionally.
Will do! It was exciting to briefly think the coin was rare, even though it turns out there were over 860million of them! It's a new coin for me, anyway, so that is definitely a win! Thanks again!

Thank you for the reassurance and the explanation, I guess it all means there are more things to collect!
Цитата: "Camerinvs"Oh, here's an interesting story from a few years back:
Ed Checks His Penny Jar and Finds $300,000
I was in that store (in Hamilton, a 45-minute drive SW of Toronto) several years ago!!!
Thanks for bringing a huge grin to my face! <-*hugegrin*. I love the "ooh, is this weird?" feeling. I'm still really new to the hobby ("groat herding", my partner calls it) so there's all sorts out there that I haven't seen yet!

Ah, actually, I had entered my coins on that page as well!
I find the separate listing unfortunate, here and for several other coins. That's why I have an Excel file for my Canadian coins:
I have not yet added the mules that are known to have been produced for circulation. The non-circulating one (parts of sets, PL, etc.) will not be included.
